The VITA Program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) offers free tax preparation to low-to-moderate-income ($70,000 and below) people who would like a trained individual to prepare their tax returns. Certified volunteers, sponsored by Northeastern State University and Goodwill, receive training to help prepare basic tax returns (Federal and State) for the community. Northeastern State University (Broken Arrow Campus) and Goodwill are now offering this program to qualifying members of surrounding communities, as well as to the campus community, their families, and friends.
This program is available in the spring each year beginning in late January/early February and running through mid-April.
These items are required to have taxes prepared and must be brought to the VITA site:
- Photo identification
- Physical copy of Social Security cards for you, your spouse and dependents and/or a Social Security Number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration.
- Birth Dates for you, your spouse and dependents.
- Wage and earning statement(s) Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R, from all employers.
- Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099).
- A copy of last year’s Federal and State returns if available.
- A personal check with your Bank routing number and Account Number for Direct Deposit.
- Payment made to daycare providers including tax identification number of the daycare provider (the provider's Social Security Number or the provider's business Employer Identification Number).
- All documents issued that state "furnished to the IRS."
- Any documents that deal with health insurance coverage, 1095-A, 1099-SSA, exemption certificates, etc.
- To file taxes electronically for "married filing joint" tax returns, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
