Begin by understanding the assignment and choosing a focused research topic. Then, develop a clear thesis statement. Next, create an outline to structure your paper and guide your research. Finally, begin writing the introduction, the body paragraphs, and the conclusion, ensuring to cite all sources.

Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL Purdue) has good resources on the writing process, including outlining, developing a thesis statement, and more. Brainstorming also helps with the research paper writing process. Check out mind mapping (a technique for brainstorming). If you're still having trouble, you can also visit the Writing Center or stop by and visit with a librarian. In Tahlequah, librarians are available on the first floor Monday through Friday from 10am-2pm and Monday through Thursday from 5pm-7pm; in Broken Arrow, librarians are available at the library's reference desk on the second floor the entire time the library is open. You can also book an appointment with a librarian.
