The NSU Archives & Special Collections are dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of Northeastern State University. This is best achieved by following the archival best practices and standards set forth by organizations, including the Society of American Archivists and the Smithsonian Institution Archives. These standards include:
- Materials being housed in acid free archival boxes or files.
- The monitoring and adjustment of environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity.
- Organization of collection materials by finding aid or accession.
- Best practices of handling and use of materials deemed fragile.
- The creation and retention of digital facsimile and material.
